The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC) has initiated a Brownfield Assistance Program in partnership with Empire State Development Corporation. This program is designed to help property owners understand the many City, State and Federal programs that help to identify potential brownfield sites and, second, offer support programs to assist in the redevelopment and clean up of these sites. Through this program, SIEDC will have the opportunity to provide individual service to property owners interested in learning how they may effectively redevelop underutilized parcels of land that suffer from real or perceived environmental contamination. This program uses the resources of New York State, as well as private developers and financial firms, to identify sites that possess development potential and to devise a collaborative strategy that leads to effective redevelopment. Most importantly, the program provides participating property owners with a strategy for navigating the brownfields redevelopment process, ensuring compliance with state regulations while also providing access to municipal assistance and incentives that may be available to offset redevelopment costs. All property owners who own a property that is contaminated, including those not responsible for such contamination, can benefit from these free service offered by SIEDC.
