Community Service Employment Program

Description: The Community Service Employment Program (CSEP) is an employment referral program whereby SIEDC connects recently unemployed or recent college graduates with community service assignments, as preparation for full time employment.  Upon successful completion of a community service position, applicants will then be placed in full-time employment positions.

Goal: CSEP provides both community services and employment to skilled recent graduates or the recently unemployed. Participants are placed in community service activities at non-profit facilities which match their skill-sets as best as possible. It is intended that community service training serves as a bridge to successful employment; CSEP's goal is to place 50 applicants into employment annually.

Eligibility: CSEP applicants must:

  • Have graduated from college within a year of the current year, or will be graduating college this year OR have been unemployed for one year or less.
  • Must be able to perform community service work (stipend will be provided).
  • Must reside in Staten Island, NY.

Testimonials:

This is a very valuable service to the community and to our CSI students. I cannot thank you enough on behalf of CSI and our office.”
-Joanne, the College of Staten Island

"Being involved in the volunteer program with the SIEDC has been an extremely positive experience for me. Working with Harbor Lights Theatre Company is a great way to give back to the community. Having an opportunity to collaborate and learn from new people has helped me grown as an artist and filmmaker."
-Chris, Videographer

From resume reviews, interviews, and from phone conversations with both candidates you already recommended, we are impressed with their experience, background and qualifications.  This is really saving us time by pre- interviewing and vetting applicants, and we thank you so much for your assistance.”
-Cathi, Statewide Fire Corporation

“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for helping me during this difficult time. You have made such a positive impact on my search for employment, a journey, which on my own had been rather negative and discouraging to say the least. It was a blessing to have such a compassionate and concerned individual guide and aide me through the process of job location. I will be forever grateful to you and everyone over at the SIEDC.”
-Christina, CSEP participant

“I have found my time volunteering at the Conference House to be both enjoyable and informative.  I also feel I have gained valuable work experience by doing a variety of different tasks.”
-Jillian, CSEP participant
