Conceived by the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC), the Staten Island Film Festival held its first 4-day festival in June 2006 and was recognized by Mayor Michael Bloomberg with a Neighborhood Achievement Award. The SIEDC came up with this idea to help foster an artistic atmosphere on Staten Island as part of a strategy to draw visitors from New York's other four boroughs and New Jersey. Festival-goers could be introduced in what Staten Island has to offer.
Over the last three years, the Staten Island Film Festival has grown and has attracted a myriad of spectators from both a national and international audience. The Festival has been covered in the NY Times, NY Daily News, NY Post, Hollywood Reporter, Channel 2 Entertainment News, NY 1 and the Staten Island Advance.
As the Festival continues to grow, so does the community that supports it, in the form of sponsors, partners, staff, board members, volunteers and attendees.
The 2009 Film Festival will take place June 4-7th.
