About the Health & Environmental Conference:
THE HEALTH COMPONENT
The SIEDC Health and Environmental Conference 2009 will present a day long forum for information on healthcare, medical innovations, new and better pharmaceutical products, higher education in medicine and nursing, government policies and programs, and insurance options and will provide free on-site medical screenings. With the assistance of Richmond University Medical Center and Staten Island University Hospital, SIEDC will outreach to the medical and healthcare community for participants, structure and content and will address those issues of particular importance to Staten Island heart disease, lung cancer, smoking and obesity to name just a few.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL COMPONENT
In addition, The Health and Environment Conference will demonstrate why a clean environment is important to a healthy lifestyle. Polluted air, environmental toxins, contaminated water these are all factors that can undermine a person's pursuit of better health. Cleantech industry leaders and innovators will be invited to sponsor and present the latest achievements in such areas as alternative energy, biofuels, and Leed (green building) standards. Participants will learn the latest ways to incorporate green practices into their businesses, homes and lifestyles and the environmental impact of current practices. SIEDC will also present the results of its effort to establish a Green Enterprise Trade Zone on Staten Island to lure green industries to the borough.
