SIEDC Plan for New Transit

SI GONDOLA

SIEDC recently completed an engineering and feasibility study for an aerial gondola system between Staten Island and Bayonne. The system could move 4,000 people per hour with 12 second headways and would connect to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system.

WEST SHORE LIGHT RAIL

The West Shore Light Rail would travel along the median of Staten Island's West Shore Expressway and connect the South and West Shores with the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail in Bayonne, New Jersey. The route will create a new option for Staten Island commuters while alleviating traffic congestion related to the thousands of new jobs along the transit corridor.

SI SKYWAY URBAN PARK

Drawing inspiration from the highly successful Manhattan High Line, the SIEDC envisions a similar project being implemented in the neighborhood of Port Richmond. The proposed Skyway project will occupy a half-mile elevated portion of the long-abandoned rail line between Richmond Terrace and Heberton Avenue and Nicholas Avenue. The project would include various recreation spaces as well as a farmers market, public gardens, and historic markers.
