Neighborhood Development

The organization currently manages the borough’s largest portfolio of neighborhood development work, guiding numerous merchant groups and Business Improvement Districts.

  • New Dorp Lane District

The mission of the New Dorp Business Improvement District is to enhance the New Dorp economy by promoting public and private investment, providing services and events, and encouraging responsible and sustainable development, all of which improve the quality of life and provide broad and diverse employment opportunities in the New Dorp area.

  • West Shore BID

In May 2012, SIEDC was selected by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to assist in developing a new industrial business improvement district on the West Shore of Staten Island. Since its inception in July 2015, the West Shore Business Improvement District (WS BID) has provided much-needed services including private maintenance, private security, signage, and wayfinding, advocacy on behalf of property owners, and important infrastructure improvements. The ultimate goal of the WS BID is to transform the West Shore into a premier industrial corridor for Staten Island and the City.

  • Victory Boulevard

Victory Boulevard Merchants Association has been created to benefit the local community. The SIEDC is helping to grow and improve the Victory Boulevard shopping experience. It started with holiday lights, new trash receptacles, a cleaning crew and some beautification. That’s just the start. We are planning lots more. If you love Westerleigh and you would like to get involved contact the group for more information

  • Richmond Road

The merchants on Richmond Road from Delaware Avenue to Stobe Avenue, are some of the most diverse and colorful shops on the Island. Through out the year many family and holiday events are held on the grounds of one of Staten Island’s oldest towns to date. Shop local, shop Richmond Road!

  • North Hylan

Like other hidden gem towns in Staten Island, the North Hylan Merchants Association aims to provide marketing, events, business support and economic development opportunities to small businesses along Hylan Boulevard. In this shopping corridor you will find everything you need, from top dealerships to excellent restaurants you crave, this side of the Island is very diverse in it’s services. Make sure to visit and shop local!

  • Graniteville-Mariners Harbor

The mission of the Graniteville-Mariners Harbor Merchants Association is to provide marketing, business support and economic development opportunities to small businesses in the corridor. This charming corridor includes a variety of different businesses ranging from auto shops to landscaping.

  • Rosebank

The Rosebank Merchants Association is home to some of Staten Islands most popular restaurants and local shops. The Rosebank Merchants Association aims to provide beautification, maintenance, community events, and business support to the neighborhood along Bay Street, from Front Street to Fingerboard Road.

  • Richmond Avenue

In 2022, Councilman Joseph Borelli charged SIEDC with launching a Business Improvement District (BID) exploration project along one of the borough’s most significant shopping corridors: Richmond Avenue via creation of the Richmond Avenue Merchants Association. With a focus on the heavily trafficked stretch from approximately Rockland Avenue to Forest Hill Road, outreach and a community needs assessment was begun. Merchants located on the approximately 2 mile district, home to the Staten Island Mall, multiple large shopping plazas and numerous other big box retailers such as the borough’s only Costco, are excited about the premise for joint marketing, beautification efforts and additional business support that can prevent shoppers from crossing the bridge to New Jersey for shopping excursions. One of the first visible efforts in the district is the installation of festive holiday lights designed to enhance the area during the peak shopping season.
