The March 2023 Staten Island Live report indicates a concerning increase in major crime. Overall, major crime has increased by just about 17%, which includes robberies, burglaries, and felony assaults. Robberies, when the perpetrator steals something by violence, force, or threats, have increased with 33 incidents in 2022 compared to 63 in 2023. Burglaries, similar to robberies, but do not involve the intent of violence have also increased with a 25-case increase from 2022. Felony assaults, the infliction of severe injuries, risk of death, or death to another person, have increased as well with 100 cases in 2022 and 139 in 2023.
